Aircast Walker

These walkers provide support for fractures, ligament tears, sprains, and also tendon tears. It also reduces edema in the area. They support the foot and leg with air cushions surrounding the area. Also, it can be adjusted easily for comfort and support. Walking boots such as the Aircast Walker has been shown to decrease recovery time for the injury.

Not only does it increase mobility but it acts as the cast itself. The Aircast Walker can also be inflated, deflated and also removed by the patient if needed. This is useful if the area is uncomfortable or needed to be removed for a shower for example. This also means that the Aircast Walker is only able to be used for less severe injuries. But they can also be used to reduce the amount of time of using a hard cast as the injury heals.

Night Splint

A brace that holds the foot and toes up while sleeping. Holding the foot at an angle then provides a constant stretch on the plantar fascia. It is used in the treatment of plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendinopathy and also other foot or ankle-related issues. These braces can be used every night for several months as needed. As the symptoms subside, gradually reduce the use of the splint.

WalkAide Device

Developed at the University of Alberta, the WalkAide Device treats foot drop. Foot drop is a condition caused by a neurological disorder, for example, multiple sclerosis (MS) can cause this condition. Other conditions include cerebral palsy, a stroke, spinal cord injury and also a traumatic brain injury.

The device works by delivering a gentle electrical signal to an ankle and foot nerve. Also, the nerve that gets the electrical signal controls ankle and foot movement. The sensors on the device will generate electrical signals during the right time in the user’s walk cycle. This then allows the user to walk with confidence, faster and more efficiently.
